Sad u Harušťákov

First Impressions

When I first pulled up to Sad u Harušťákov in the small Slovak village of Lubina, I honestly wasn’t sure what to expect. This unique boutique hotel without official star rating sits in what feels like the middle of nowhere — but that’s exactly the point. The property has this charming, almost fairy-tale quality that you simply don’t find in chain hotels, with traditional Slovak architecture that’s been lovingly restored.

The Setting

You know what struck me most? The absolute peace and quiet here. Lubina is this tiny village where locals still know each other by name, and the hotel grounds feel like stepping into a different era. There’s an orchard on the property (hence the name, which translates to “Orchard at Harušťákov”), and during my stay in late spring, the fruit trees were blooming everywhere. The air smells like apple blossoms and fresh grass — it’s actually therapeutic after months of city living.

The Room Experience

My room was in the main building, and I mean this in the best way possible — it felt like staying in someone’s beautifully decorated countryside home rather than a hotel. The furnishings mix traditional Slovak pieces with modern comfort, and there’s this attention to detail that you notice everywhere. The beds are incredibly comfortable, and the bathroom had this gorgeous clawfoot tub that I definitely took advantage of. What I loved most was the view from my window — rolling hills and farmland as far as you can see.

Food and Hospitality

The restaurant here serves some of the best traditional Slovak cuisine I’ve had, period. They source ingredients locally (some from their own garden), and the chef clearly knows what they’re doing. I had this incredible goulash that was nothing like the tourist versions you get in Bratislava — rich, complex, served with homemade bread that was still warm. The staff treats you like family, and several of them speak excellent English, which honestly surprised me given how remote this place feels.

Why Guests Love It

Look, this isn’t for everyone — if you need a fitness center, room service, or nightlife, you’ll be disappointed. But if you’re looking for authentic Slovakia, genuine hospitality, and the kind of peace that’s impossible to find in cities, this place delivers. The 9.5 rating makes perfect sense once you’re here. I ended up extending my stay an extra night because I just wasn’t ready to return to the real world. There’s free parking right on the property, which is great since you’ll definitely need a car to get here, but the drive through the Slovak countryside is half the experience anyway.
