You pull up to this traditional Slovak log cabin in the small village of Koš, and honestly, it feels like stepping into a fairytale your grandmother might have told you. The whole place has this authentic mountain charm that you just can’t fake, with hand-carved wooden details and that unmistakable smell of cedar that hits you the moment you step inside.

The Setting

What I love about this three-star gem is its location — you’re far enough from the tourist crowds to actually hear birds chirping, but close enough to Prievidza (about 20 minutes by car) that you can grab supplies or explore if you want. The surrounding hills are perfect for morning walks, and I spent way too much time just sitting on the wooden terrace watching the mist roll through the valleys. It’s the kind of place where you actually want to put your phone away and just… exist for a while.

The Accommodation

The room I stayed in was rustic without being primitive — think exposed wooden beams, traditional Slovak textiles, and windows that frame the countryside like living paintings. The bed was surprisingly comfortable (I was worried it might be too firm), and the bathroom, while compact, had everything you need including plenty of hot water. There’s no pretense here, just honest comfort that feels earned after a day of exploring the region.

Local Flavors

Breakfast is where Zuzana (the owner) really shines — she serves traditional Slovak fare that’ll fuel you for whatever adventure you’ve planned. I’m talking homemade bread, local honey, and eggs from chickens you can actually see wandering around the property. The small restaurant area feels more like eating at a friend’s house than a hotel dining room, which honestly made the whole experience more memorable. You can also arrange dinner if you ask ahead, and trust me, her goulash is worth planning your day around.
