Apartmán Dukelská sits right in the heart of Považská Bystrica, and honestly, I was pleasantly surprised by how well-maintained this three-star place is. The building itself is pretty typical Slovak architecture, but once you find entrance 11 and climb up to the second floor, you’re in for a treat. The apartment has that clean, fresh feeling that immediately puts you at ease — you know what I mean, when a place just feels right the moment you walk in.

Location & Getting Around

What I really appreciated about staying here is how walkable everything is. Považská Bystrica isn’t huge, so you can actually explore the town center on foot pretty easily. There’s a decent grocery store just a few blocks away, and the local cafés serve surprisingly good coffee — I mean, this isn’t Bratislava, but the locals know their way around an espresso. The train station is close enough that you don’t need to stress about catching connections to other Slovak cities.

The Space Itself

The room setup works really well for what it is. There’s enough space to spread out without feeling cramped, and the kitchenette is actually functional — not one of those tiny setups where you can barely boil water. I ended up cooking a simple dinner one night, and it was nice having proper plates and cookware. The bed was comfortable enough that I slept through the night without any issues, which doesn’t always happen when I’m traveling.

Practical Details

Look, finding parking around here isn’t the nightmare you might expect in a Slovak town center. There are spots available, though you might need to walk a block or two depending on when you arrive. The building entrance can be a bit tricky to spot at first — I actually walked past it once before realizing entrance 11 is slightly tucked away. But once you figure it out, getting in and out becomes second nature.

Why Guests Love It

The 9.8 rating makes complete sense once you’ve stayed here. It’s one of those places that doesn’t try to be fancy, but gets all the basics absolutely right. The host is responsive when you need something, the space is clean and well-thought-out, and you’re not dealing with any unpleasant surprises. For the price point, you’re getting solid value in a town that’s actually worth exploring — Považská Bystrica has more character than most people realize, especially if you take time to wander around the older parts of town.
