First Impressions

Walking up to Hotel pod Zámkom feels a bit like stepping into a fairy tale — and I mean that in the best possible way. The hotel sits right at the base of Bojnice Castle, honestly one of Slovakia’s most photogenic spots, and you can literally see the castle towers from the entrance. It’s this four-star property that manages to feel both historic and comfortable, which isn’t always easy to pull off.

Location & Castle Views

The location is pretty incredible if you ask me. You’re maybe a two-minute walk from the castle entrance, which means you can beat the tour buses in the morning and have those Instagram shots all to yourself. Bojnice itself is small — you can walk the entire town center in about fifteen minutes — but that’s actually part of the charm. There’s this lovely pedestrian area with cafes and small shops, and the hotel puts you right in the middle of it all.

The Room Experience

My room had this nice mix of traditional Slovak touches and modern comfort that worked well. The furniture felt solid (none of that flimsy hotel stuff), and honestly, the bed was better than I expected. What really got me though was opening the curtains in the morning — depending on which side of the building you’re on, you’ll either see the castle or the town square, both pretty lovely in their own way.

The hotel’s restaurant serves up traditional Slovak dishes alongside some international options, and I have to say, their goulash was spot-on. The dining room has this cozy, old-world feel with wooden beams and warm lighting — perfect after spending the day exploring. You know what surprised me? The wine list actually featured several local Slovak wines that I’d never tried before, and the staff seemed genuinely excited to talk about them.

You’re here for the castle, for the peaceful atmosphere, for that feeling of being somewhere genuinely special rather than just another hotel chain. The service feels personal — staff remember your name, they’ll chat about the best times to visit the castle, and there’s decent parking right on-site, which matters more than you’d think in these old European towns. It’s the kind of place that makes you want to slow down and actually enjoy where you are.
