The thing about Nová Lesná is that it’s perfectly positioned if you’re planning to explore the High Tatras — I mean, you’re literally at the base of some of Slovakia’s best hiking trails. What I really appreciated was how quiet this area gets in the evenings, especially after spending days around the busier mountain towns. There’s this lovely walking path that leads toward the forest, and honestly, it became part of my daily routine. The local bus connections are decent too, though having a car definitely opens up more options for day trips.

The Apartment Experience

Each apartment here feels more like staying at a friend’s place than a typical hotel room. The kitchenette setup actually works — I’ve stayed in places where they give you two burners and call it a kitchen, but this had everything I needed to make proper meals. The space flows well too, with separate sleeping and living areas that don’t feel cramped. I particularly liked the mountain views from the windows, though some units probably have better sightlines than others.

The owners go out of their way to share local knowledge, like which trails are best for your fitness level or where to find the good Slovak food that isn’t touristy. They helped me plan a day trip to Spiš Castle that I never would have thought of on my own. The parking is included and actually convenient, which sounds boring but matters a lot when you’re tired from hiking all day.
