The location is actually pretty brilliant if you’re into the outdoors. You’re right in the heart of the Pieniny National Park area, which means the Dunajec River is practically on your doorstep. I mean, you can literally walk to the famous monastery ruins (that’s what Červený Kláštor means, by the way — Red Monastery) in about five minutes. The rafting departure point is super close too, so if you’re planning to do the Dunajec River trip, you won’t need to drive anywhere.

The Room Experience

My room was simple but clean — exactly what you’d want after a day of hiking or rafting. The beds are comfortable enough, and there’s decent storage space for your gear. What I appreciated most was how quiet it gets at night; you can actually hear the river if you open the windows. The bathroom wasn’t huge, but everything worked well, and the water pressure was surprisingly good.

The restaurant downstairs serves solid Slovak comfort food — nothing fancy, but after a long day exploring, their goulash hits the spot perfectly. The portions are generous (as they should be in this part of Slovakia), and the prices won’t make you wince. I’d recommend trying whatever fish they’re serving; being this close to the river, it’s usually pretty fresh. The staff speaks enough English to help you navigate the menu, which is handy.

Look, Penzión Tulip isn’t going to wow you with fancy amenities or Instagram-worthy interiors. But what it does well is provide a comfortable base for exploring one of Slovakia’s most beautiful regions without breaking the bank. The 9-point rating makes sense when you consider the value — you’re paying for a clean, comfortable stay in an area where accommodation options are pretty limited. Plus, there’s parking right outside, which is a relief when you’re traveling by car through these mountain roads. It’s the kind of place that works because it doesn’t try to be something it’s not.
