It’s one of those four-star properties where you can tell they’re trying to balance tradition with modern comfort, and for the most part, it works.

Location & Setting

Here’s what’s cool about Vyšné Ružbachy — it’s this tiny spa town tucked away in the Spiš region that most tourists completely miss. The hotel sits right in the heart of the thermal springs area, which means you’re basically staying at the source of what makes this place special. You know what I mean? You can literally walk to the main thermal pools in about two minutes, and the whole valley has this peaceful, almost forgotten feel to it.

The Accommodations

My room was actually larger than I expected — these old spa hotels sometimes surprise you that way. The furnishings lean traditional (think floral patterns and dark wood), but everything felt clean and well-maintained. The bathroom was recently renovated, which honestly makes a huge difference in these historic properties. Some rooms have balconies overlooking the surrounding hills, and if you can snag one of those, definitely do it.

Thermal Waters & Wellness

The real draw here is obviously the thermal water access — the hotel has its own pools fed by the same springs that have been attracting visitors for centuries. The water temperature sits around 38°C year-round, and there’s something pretty magical about soaking in these naturally heated pools while looking out at the Carpathian foothills. They also have a basic spa setup with massage services, though don’t expect anything too fancy.

Why Guests Love It

Look, this isn’t going to be the most polished hotel experience you’ll ever have — the service can be a bit hit-or-miss, and some of the common areas could use updating. But there’s something genuinely relaxing about this whole setup that’s hard to find elsewhere in Slovakia. The restaurant serves decent traditional Slovak food (try the bryndzové halušky if you’re feeling adventurous), and the staff, while not always the most efficient, are generally friendly enough. What really sells it is the combination of affordability, history, and those incredible thermal springs right at your doorstep. It’s the kind of place where you can disconnect for a few days without breaking the bank.
