Here’s the thing about Starý Smokovec that most people don’t realize until they get there — it’s basically the perfect base camp for the Tatras without feeling touristy. The hotel sits close enough to the funicular railway that you can practically roll out of bed and catch it up to Hrebienok. I mean, you’re talking about a five-minute walk, maybe less. The train station is right there too, so if you’re coming from Poprad or planning day trips to other mountain towns, you’re all set.
