When I first spotted Primo Maxi tucked into the heart of Starý Smokovec, I’ll be honest — the name didn’t give much away. But this four-star property quickly proved that sometimes the most unassuming places pack the biggest surprises. The building sits right where you want to be in the High Tatras, close enough to hear the mountain railway chugging past but far enough from the main drag to actually get some sleep.

You know what’s brilliant about staying here? You’re literally in Smokovce, which means you can walk to the funicular that takes you up to Hrebienok in about five minutes. I mean, most people don’t realize how perfectly positioned this spot is until they’re here — you’ve got hiking trails branching off in every direction, and the ski slopes are right there when winter hits. The thermal pools at Aquacity Poprad are just a short drive away too, which honestly saved my legs after a full day of mountain scrambling.

The Room Experience

My room here actually surprised me with how thoughtfully everything was laid out.
