Casa Anca Cheile Nerei Overview
First Impressions
When I first pulled up to Casa Anca Cheile Nerei, honestly, I wasn’t sure what to expect from this four-star property tucked away in the mountains. The drive through Socolari is pretty winding, but once you arrive, you get it — this place is all about being away from everything, right in the heart of Romania’s Caraș-Severin county. The building itself has this rustic charm that feels authentic, not like someone just slapped together a mountain lodge theme.
The Setting
You know what struck me most? The location near Ochiul Beiului — that’s the “Eye of Beu” spring, and it’s absolutely worth the short hike if you’re into natural wonders. The area around Cheile Nerei is part of the national park, so you’re literally surrounded by limestone gorges and pristine forests. I mean, the air quality alone makes the drive worthwhile, and you can actually hear the silence at night (something I’d forgotten was possible).
The Room Experience
My room was surprisingly spacious for a mountain property, with wooden accents that didn’t feel overdone. The windows frame the forest perfectly, and I spent way too much time just watching the light change throughout the day. The bathroom was modern and well-appointed — sometimes these remote places skimp on the basics, but not here. There’s good heating too, which you’ll appreciate if you visit in the cooler months.
Dining and Atmosphere
The restaurant serves traditional Romanian dishes with a focus on local ingredients, and honestly, after a day of hiking, that hearty fare hits differently. I had some excellent ciorbă de burtă (tripe soup) that would make any Romanian grandmother proud. The staff actually knows the area well — they’ll point you toward the best trails and warn you about which paths get muddy after rain. That local knowledge is invaluable when you’re exploring somewhere this remote.
Why Guests Love It
With a 9.2 rating, Casa Anca Cheile Nerei clearly gets something right, and I think it’s the genuine mountain experience without sacrificing comfort. You’re not dealing with crowds here — this isn’t Brașov or Sinaia where tour buses roll through. Instead, you get authentic access to one of Romania’s most beautiful natural areas, with a base that’s actually comfortable to return to after a long day outdoors. The parking is right there (no hauling luggage uphill), and the whole operation feels family-run in the best possible way.

Guest Reviews
This was like stepping back in time, into a fairy tale :) Cute house, interesting decorations, lovely garden, plus a bit of adventure figuring everything out. Playing with neighbour's kittens ❤️ Loved it! What could be improved: Difficult to shower...
Absolutely everything- it was in a gorgeous little village with very thoughtfully chosen decor. The kitchen is well stocked, and the garden is perfect for relaxing in. What could be improved: It was a little challenging to get there- the...
Everything was beyond our expectations. We were there for the Cheile Nerei hikes and return back at lunch. It is a beautifull accomodation, that gives a sense of tranquility and also the village is unique! We couldn't ask for more!
Probably the most beautiful house in the village! Simple, cute, has everything you need: kitchen utensils, nice wine glasses, sun beds, barbecue tools, reading material, parking place etc. Check-in was quick and easy. Located in the most interesting...
Nice and cozy.
The house and the garden was wonderful. Really close to Ochiul Bei. I was with the dog and everything was great. What could be improved: The last 12 km from Oravita are hard and a lot of holls. The owner told me and i drived really slow until the...
Nicely renovated house in the middle of an old village atmosphere which in the meanwhile became the place for many artists in Timisoara, as we learned. Liked the yard and generally the feeling of living at the countryside for a few days. What could...
The best accomodation during our trip around Romania. Beautiful house and little garden. Very well equiped kitchen. Big rooms, comfy beds. Yes, the shower is not the most convenient, but it was a very small minuse, considering that everything else...
I really liked the environment, the relationship of the house with nature. What could be improved: The design of the Scandinavian-style shower (which is very practical and environmentally friendly) was not very good, the drain should have been...
Jó értelemben vett világvégi falu, csönd, nyugalom, relax. Az utcán játszadozó gyerekek és mindenfelé kószáló csirkék, ludak, tehenek. Mintha visszamentem volna 45 évet a gyerekkoromba, a nagyszüleim falujába.
