When I first pulled up to Domček & SAUNA garden in Stará Lesná, I honestly wasn’t sure what to expect from the name alone. But you know what? This four-star gem completely surprised me. It’s tucked away in this quiet corner of the High Tatras foothills, and the moment you step out of your car, there’s this immediate sense of peace that washes over you.

The location is actually perfect if you’re looking to escape the tourist crowds but still want easy access to the mountains. Stará Lesná itself is this charming little village that most people just drive through on their way to the bigger ski resorts, but that’s exactly what makes it special. You’re about fifteen minutes from the cable car stations, yet you feel like you’re in your own private retreat.

The Accommodation

My room was in what they call a “domček” — basically a cozy cottage-style setup that felt more like staying at a friend’s mountain house than a hotel. The space had this lovely rustic-modern vibe going on, with wooden beams and contemporary touches that actually worked together. There’s a small kitchenette area that’s genuinely useful if you want to make coffee in the morning or store some local cheese and wine.
