Tatra Green sits quietly in Veľká Lomnica, and honestly, the name tells you everything you need to know. This four-star property is surrounded by so much greenery that you’ll feel like you’re staying in someone’s well-manicured backyard — except with way better service. The building itself has that clean, modern Slovak design that doesn’t try too hard, which I actually appreciated after seeing so many overdone mountain hotels in the region.

Location and the Tatra Connection

You know what’s brilliant about this spot? You’re literally at the foot of the High Tatras, but you’re not dealing with the tourist chaos of places like Štrbské Pleso. Veľká Lomnica is one of those towns that locals still use as, well, a normal town — there’s a grocery store down the road, kids riding bikes, that sort of thing. The golf course is right there (hence the Golfová address), and if you’re into hiking, the cable car to Skalnaté pleso is maybe a 15-minute drive.

The Room Experience

My room was one of those spaces that just works — clean lines, lots of natural light, and a balcony that actually had a view worth opening the curtains for. The bathroom was modern without being sterile, and the bed was properly comfortable (you’d be surprised how many mountain hotels get this wrong). What I really liked was how quiet it stayed at night, even though you’re not in the middle of nowhere.

Dining and Amenities

The restaurant here surprised me — I mean, you don’t expect exceptional food in a smaller Slovak town, but the chef clearly knows what they’re doing. They do this interesting mix of traditional Slovak dishes with some international options, and the local trout was honestly better than what I’ve had in Bratislava. There’s also a wellness area with a sauna that’s perfect after a day of hiking, and parking is included, which matters more than you’d think when you’re traveling through Slovakia by car.

Why Guests Love It

That 9.9 rating isn’t just Slovak hospitality inflation — this place genuinely gets the details right. The staff actually remembers your name, the WiFi works everywhere (crucial if you’re working remotely from the mountains), and they’ll help you plan hiking routes without trying to sell you expensive tours. It’s the kind of hotel where you end up staying an extra day because leaving feels unnecessarily complicated. Plus, you’re paying about half what you’d spend for similar quality in Austria, just across the mountains.
