Location & Surroundings

You know what struck me most about staying here? The silence. Dravce has maybe 200 residents, so once evening hits, the only sounds are birds settling in for the night and maybe a distant church bell. The national park trails literally start from the village — I mean, you can walk from the hotel to some incredible gorges and waterfalls without even getting in your car. The famous Suchá Belá gorge is about a 15-minute drive, but there are lesser-known trails right at your doorstep that most tourists never discover.

The Accommodation

My room was surprisingly spacious for what I expected from a mountain hotel. Clean lines, wooden furniture that feels sturdy rather than fancy, and windows that actually open wide (you’d be amazed how rare that’s becoming). The bathroom was modern without being sterile, and the shower had proper water pressure — something you really appreciate after a day of hiking. What I loved was the little balcony; not huge, but perfect for morning coffee while watching mist roll through the valleys.

Dining Experience

The restaurant downstairs serves traditional Slovak dishes with a contemporary twist, and the chef clearly knows what they’re doing. I had this incredible wild boar goulash that tasted like something my Slovak grandmother might have made, if she’d had access to better ingredients and technique. Breakfast was hearty — none of that continental nonsense — with local cheeses, fresh bread, and strong coffee. The staff actually remembered my preference for scrambled eggs after the second day, which is the kind of personal touch you get in smaller places like this.
