Apartments Rakoczi sits right on Marianske Square in the heart of Žilina, and honestly, the location couldn’t be better. I mean, you’re literally steps away from the main pedestrian zone with all those colorful baroque buildings — it’s one of those spots where you feel like you’re in the center of everything without the chaos of a big city. The building itself has this understated elegance that fits perfectly with the historic square, though don’t expect flashy signage.

The Apartment Experience

What I really appreciated about this four-star place is that each apartment feels like your own little Slovak home base rather than just another hotel room. The kitchenette setup is actually practical — not one of those tiny token things you sometimes get. You’ll find proper cookware and even a dishwasher, which saved me from eating out every single meal (Slovak restaurants are great, but your wallet will thank you for the occasional home-cooked dinner). The living spaces are generous too, with enough room to spread out your stuff without feeling cramped.

Location Perks

Here’s what the booking sites won’t tell you — there’s a fantastic local market just a short walk away on Thursdays and Saturdays where you can grab fresh produce for that kitchenette. Plus, the main shopping street starts literally at your doorstep, and the castle ruins are an easy fifteen-minute stroll uphill. The parking situation is better than most places in the old town, though I’d still recommend asking about spaces when you book.

Comfort and Amenities

The apartments are surprisingly quiet considering you’re on the main square — Slovak construction from this era was built to last, I suppose. Each unit has solid Wi-Fi (worked perfectly for my video calls back home), and the heating system actually keeps things comfortable during those chilly mountain evenings. The bathrooms are modern and well-designed, though not huge. There’s also a small spa area in the building that’s perfect for unwinding after a day of exploring the Tatras region.

Why Guests Love It

You know what really sets this place apart? It’s that 9.6 rating, and after staying here, I totally get it. The staff genuinely knows the area — they pointed me toward this incredible traditional restaurant called Koliba that I never would’ve found otherwise. The combination of having your own space with hotel-level service works really well, especially if you’re planning to stay more than just a night or two. It’s one of those places where you can actually settle in and experience Žilina like a temporary local rather than just passing through.
