When I first pulled up to Cabana Tei-Tei in the village of Livezile, I honestly wasn’t sure what to expect from this four-star property tucked away in the Romanian countryside. The wooden cabin-style architecture immediately caught my eye — it’s got that authentic mountain lodge feel without looking like someone’s weekend DIY project. You know what struck me most? How quiet it was, with just the sound of wind through the trees and maybe a distant cow bell.

Location & Neighborhood

This place sits in Izvoarele, which is basically the middle of nowhere in the best possible way. I mean, you’re about 20 minutes from any real town, but that’s exactly the point. The surrounding hills are perfect for hiking, and there are these little streams everywhere that actually make you want to take your shoes off and wade in. Local shepherds still move their flocks through the area in the mornings — something you don’t see much of anymore.

The Accommodation

My room was larger than I expected, with thick wooden beams overhead and windows that frame the valley views perfectly. The beds are firm (which I appreciate), and there’s actually decent WiFi if you need to check in with the outside world. What impressed me was the attention to detail — handwoven textiles, local pottery, stuff that feels authentic rather than bought from some hotel supply catalog.

Dining Experience

The restaurant serves traditional Romanian dishes that taste like someone’s grandmother has been perfecting the recipes for decades. I had the mici with polenta, and honestly, it was better than what I’ve had in Bucharest restaurants charging twice as much. They source most ingredients locally, which you can actually taste — the cheese, the vegetables, even the bread has that fresh, homemade quality. Breakfast includes local honey that’s so good you’ll want to buy a jar to take home.

Why Guests Love It

Look, this isn’t the kind of place where you’ll find a spa or a fancy pool — it’s something better. The 9.5 rating makes sense when you realize that sometimes the best amenities are clean mountain air and genuine hospitality. The owners, who live on-site, actually care about your experience and will spend time telling you about hidden hiking trails or the best spots to see wildlife. There’s parking right outside your door, which matters when you’re carrying luggage and groceries from town.
