First Impressions

Chata Medovka sits quietly in Východná, and honestly, when I first pulled up, I wasn’t sure what to expect from this four-star mountain retreat. The traditional Slovak chalet architecture immediately caught my eye — it’s not trying to be flashy or modern, just authentically mountain-cozy in that way that makes you want to settle in for a few days.

Location & Setting

You know what struck me most about this place? The absolute silence when you step outside. Východná is one of those villages tucked into the Tatras foothills where you can actually hear birds chirping and leaves rustling. I mean, it’s about 20 minutes from Liptovský Mikuláš if you need civilization, but honestly, once you’re here, you sort of forget about rushing anywhere. The surrounding meadows and forest trails are perfect for those early morning walks when the mist is still hanging low.

The Accommodation

My room had this lovely rustic-meets-comfortable vibe — wooden beams, traditional textiles, but with all the modern touches you’d want (good WiFi, proper heating, a bathroom that actually worked well). The beds are genuinely comfortable, which isn’t always a given in mountain lodges. What I really appreciated was the attention to local details — hand-carved furniture and regional artwork that felt authentic rather than touristy.

Dining & Atmosphere

The restaurant serves traditional Slovak cuisine, and I’ll be honest — I was pleasantly surprised by how well they executed everything. The bryndzové halušky (potato dumplings with sheep cheese) was probably the best I’ve had outside of my Slovak friend’s grandmother’s kitchen. They source ingredients locally when possible, and you can taste the difference. The dining room has these big windows overlooking the garden, so breakfast feels particularly peaceful with the morning light streaming in.
