Transylvania House Overview
First Impressions
When I first pulled up to Transylvania House, I honestly wasn’t sure what to expect — the name sounds like something out of a vampire movie, right? But this four-star gem in the Apuseni Mountains completely surprised me. Sitting right on DN75, it’s this warm, inviting place that feels more like a mountain retreat than anything spooky. The 9.6 rating makes perfect sense once you’re actually here.
Location & Mountain Setting
Arieşeni is one of those Romanian mountain towns that most tourists skip, but honestly, that’s their loss. You’re surrounded by some seriously beautiful hiking trails, and the Transylvania House sits perfectly positioned to take advantage of all that natural scenery. The air up here is different — crisp and clean in a way that makes you want to take deeper breaths. In winter, you’re close enough to decent skiing, and summer brings wildflower meadows that stretch for miles.
The Room Experience
My room had this cozy mountain cabin vibe without feeling rustic or uncomfortable. The beds are actually really good quality — firm but not too hard, which matters when you’ve been hiking all day. What I appreciated most was the attention to small details: proper reading lights, enough outlets for your devices, and windows that frame the mountain views perfectly. The bathroom was modern and well-designed, with hot water that never seemed to run out.
Dining & Local Flavors
The restaurant here serves traditional Romanian mountain food, and I mean the real deal. They do this incredible ciorbă de burtă that’s perfect after a day outdoors, and their mici are some of the best I’ve had in the region. The staff knows the area really well too — they’ll point you toward the best hiking trails and tell you which villages are worth exploring. Breakfast isn’t fancy, but it’s hearty and uses local ingredients that actually taste like something.
Why Guests Love It
What makes Transylvania House special is how it balances comfort with authenticity. You get modern amenities and genuine Romanian mountain hospitality without any of the tourist trap nonsense. The parking situation is straightforward — no stress about finding a spot or paying extra fees. It’s the kind of place where you can relax completely, whether you’re using it as a base for mountain adventures or just want to disconnect for a few days. Plus, the value for what you get is honestly impressive for a four-star property in such a beautiful setting.
