First Impressions
When I first pulled up to IZKI Eco Resort, I honestly wasn’t sure what to expect — it’s tucked away in this tiny village called Izky that you’d probably miss if you weren’t looking for it. But that’s actually the whole point. This unique boutique hotel without official star rating sits in what feels like untouched Ukrainian countryside, where the air is so clean it almost stings your lungs in the best way possible.
The Eco Experience
You know what struck me most? How they’ve managed to create something genuinely sustainable without making you feel like you’re roughing it. The buildings blend into the landscape so naturally — lots of local wood and stone, solar panels that don’t look like an afterthought. I mean, they’ve got composting toilets in some areas, but somehow it all feels intentional rather than hippie-ish, if that makes sense.
Your Room and Space
My room was in one of their wooden cabins, and honestly, it felt more like staying in a really well-designed treehouse than a hotel. The windows are huge — you wake up basically in the forest canopy. There’s no air conditioning (you won’t need it), but there are these clever cross-ventilation systems that keep everything comfortable. The bathroom products are all locally made, and I actually ended up buying some to take home.
Food and Local Flavors
The restaurant here is something else — they grow most of their vegetables on-site, and you can literally see the garden from your table. The chef sources everything within about 50 kilometers, so the menu changes with what’s actually in season. I had this incredible borscht made with beetroots they’d harvested that morning, and some sort of wild mushroom dish that I’m still thinking about months later.
Why Guests Love It
Look, this isn’t for everyone — if you need room service and a concierge, you’ll be disappointed. But if you want to disconnect (the WiFi is deliberately patchy) and experience what rural Ukraine actually feels like, it’s perfect. The staff are mostly locals from the village, so they know every hiking trail and swimming spot within walking distance. Plus, there’s this genuine sense that your stay is actually helping preserve this little corner of the world rather than exploiting it.
