Pension Perla Bucovinei Overview
First Impressions
Pension Perla Bucovinei sits right in Voronet, and I mean right there — you can practically roll out of bed and walk to the famous painted monastery. The guesthouse has this authentic Romanian mountain feel that you just don’t get at chain hotels, but with all the modern touches that make a four-star place actually comfortable. When I pulled up, the owners greeted me like I was visiting family, which honestly set the tone for the entire stay.
Location & Getting Around
Here’s what makes this spot special — you’re literally in the heart of Bucovina’s monastery region. The Voronet Monastery, with those incredible blue frescoes everyone talks about, is maybe a three-minute walk away. I actually watched other tourists drive up from Suceava or Gura Humorului just for day trips, while I was already having my morning coffee and planning which monastery to hit next. The parking situation is straightforward too, which matters when you’re driving these winding mountain roads.
The Room Experience
My room was exactly what you’d want after a day of monastery hopping — clean, warm, and decorated with local touches that felt genuine rather than touristy. The bed was properly comfortable (you know how hit-or-miss that can be at smaller places), and the bathroom had good water pressure, which I appreciated after hiking around all day. There’s something nice about staying somewhere that feels like a well-run family business rather than a corporate hotel.
Food & Local Flavors
The breakfast here is where Pension Perla Bucovinei really shows its character. We’re talking traditional Romanian fare — fresh bread, local cheeses, maybe some homemade jam — but done right. It’s not a massive buffet, but everything tastes like it’s actually made on-site. The family running the place knows the area inside and out, so they’ll point you toward the best local spots for dinner, which is invaluable when you’re in a smaller village like Voronet.
Why Guests Love It
Look, if you’re doing the painted monasteries circuit in Bucovina, this place just makes sense. The 9.5 rating isn’t inflated — it’s earned through consistent attention to detail and genuine hospitality. You’re staying in a real Romanian village, getting authentic local insights, and you can walk to one of the country’s most important cultural sites. Plus, the value is excellent for what you get. I’ve stayed at pricier places in Romania that didn’t come close to this level of personal service and local authenticity.

The location and the staff
It is one of my favourite Pension in the area. Love the food and the staff friendlies.
What could be improved: The road from the monastery to the pension.it is the same as it was 6 years ago when I visit them.
Excellent food and breakfast, the wine was great particularly the house red. It is located right behind the Voronet monastery on a hill. The hotel had all the amenities of a luxury stay.
Big room, comfortable and clean, beautiful view. We didn’t have a meal at the restaurant so can’t comment. What could be improved: Checkin from 15 o’clock but room was ready at 16:30 . The wait was compensated with local drinks however they should...
The view from the room is great, rooms are clean and quite modern, good value for the money.
